A Few Key Resources

No one is immune from the stress and pressures of life. For some individuals, however, it is more difficult to rebound from life's challenges. Such is the case when clinical depression or anxiety disorders are evident. It is completely unrealistic to tell such individuals to "just snap out of it." Whether we Christians want to admit it or not, the brain is an organ and mental illness does exist. Fortunately, there is a good deal of help available today and God wants his people well. After all, isn't one of His names Jehova Rapha - the God of health and wholeness? Listed below are some of the good Christian resources available that we recommend for many of our clients who might be struggling with mental and emotional pain.

Dr. William Bakkus demonstrates how renewing your mind with God's Word can foster mental health. If you have struggled with problems such as inferiority, low self-worth stress, anger management or even anxiety and depression, you will find hope and encouragement in this book. We often refer clients to this resource when they present difficulties in these areas at Christian Family Guidance Center.

About 18 million Americans struggle with depression. That number includes many Christians who truly love the Lord who are suffering from this dark and debilitating malady. All to often they are afraid to admit it or sek help. Letting this problem continue without intervention can lead to even further consequences for emotional, relational and physical health. This book can help those suffering as well as family members and friends who need suggestions on what they can do.

Author Niel Anderson recognizes the healing power in God's word. The purpose of this book is to help you renew your mind with God's Word to help you break free from negative thinking, irrational feelings and habitual sin patterns.

Can God lead us to an abundant life even if we have severe hurts in our past. The answer is "yes" and Dr. Dan Allender has written this book to help you on that journey.

Author Nancy Hagerman tells her story as a believer who struggled with severe bi-polar disorder that took her from the extreme heights of mania to near suicidal depression. She expresses her gratitude to the Lord who liberated her and offers hope and encouragement to others who may be dealing with this problem.

Anger is toxic. That is to be taken literally because anger will produce toxic chemistry not only in your relationships but also in your own body. This book is a helpful guide to understanding anger, and learning how to deal with it in a healthy fashion.

This little booklet is a fairly short read, but it has much to say to the Christian who is having difficulty with anger. We recommend it to our clients often at Christian Family Guidance Center.

While it is our sincere belief that far too many children are diagnosed with ADHD, there are indeed genuine cases of this problem which need to be addressed. This book was written to provide hope and encouragement to families who may have a child with the real problem of ADHD.
